The Future of Instructional Design Isn’t Courses. It’s Learning Systems.

For decades, instructional design has centered on building courses.

Design the curriculum.

Develop the slides.

Record the webinar.

Upload the content to the LMS.

But something fundamental is changing.

Artificial intelligence is dramatically accelerating content production. Tasks that once took instructional designers weeks or months can now be completed in hours. As a result, the bottleneck in learning is no longer content creation.

It is learning system design.

And that shift will redefine the role of instructional designers over the next decade.

The End of Slow Course Production

Traditional instructional design models evolved in an era when creating educational content was expensive and time-consuming.
