Synopsis
A client association had strong education offerings, but no formal strategy tying the portfolio to member needs, business goals, and measurable outcomes. I developed the association’s first strategic education plan to bring more focus, consistency, and performance to webinars and other professional development offerings.
The Challenge
The education portfolio had grown over time, but without a clear strategic framework. Leadership needed a better way to align education with enterprise priorities; improve webinar, online education, and live events; and make smarter decisions about programming, quality, and growth.
The Solution
I led development of the organization’s first strategic education plan, grounding it in member needs, organizational priorities, and performance data. That included clarifying learning priorities, improving portfolio oversight, and establishing stronger content-quality standards, such as clear learning objectives, takeaways, and evaluation mechanisms. I also helped redesign the webinar portfolio using learner engagement data, personas, and metrics/reporting to guide decisions.
I also introduced generative AI into the strategy, creation, and tactics of the education plan. I created a custom GPT that streamlined basic educational session work, including writing course titles, descriptions, and learning objectives as well as job aid infographics and executive summaries.
The Results
The work led to a 40% increase in the number of webinars, a 50% increase in high-performing webinars and 28% year-over-year growth in webinar registrations. Just as important, the organization had a repeatable framework for making better decisions about education investments and portfolio design.
Executive Takeaway
A strategic education plan can turn a collection of programs into a portfolio that performs better for both learners and the organization.
